Rashid Khan Family- Father, Mother, Siblings

Rashid Khan, born in 1998 in Nangarhar, Eastern Afghanistan, hails from Jalalabad and is part of a large family with ten siblings. When he was still young, his family had to escape the Afghan war, living in Pakistan for a few years. They eventually returned to Afghanistan, where Rashid resumed his education. During his upbringing, Rashid and his brothers shared a passion for cricket. He looked up to the Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi, emulating both his bowling action and drawing inspiration from South African batsman AB de Villiers.

Rashid’s compatriot, Mohammad Nabi, and his Sunrisers Hyderabad teammate, Yusuf Pathan, offered their heartfelt condolences to the young all-rounder during this difficult time.

While Rashid Khan hasn’t publicly shared a photo with his mother, he has expressed his deep love for her through his tweets. In June 2020, Rashid Khan’s mother sadly passed away after battling a prolonged illness. Due to the profound connection he had with her, Rashid posted an emotional tweet following her passing.

“You were my home, my mother. I had no home but you. I can’t believe you are no longer with me. You will be missed forever. Rest In Peace,” Rashid Khan wrote, paying a touching tribute to his beloved mother.

Rashid Khan Siblings

Rashid Khan comes from a large family of six brothers and four sisters. On one occasion, he shared a video where he was playing cricket at home with his brothers. What’s particularly interesting is that all of them naturally bowl leg-spin.

While there isn’t a wealth of information available about all of his siblings, Rashid did tag one of his elder brothers, Amir Khan, in the video he posted on Twitter. In the video, one of his nephews requested that he celebrate with an ‘Aeroplane’ celebration, and Rashid has incorporated this celebration into his repertoire, performing it after every wicket he takes.

Rashid Khan Career

He made his One Day International (ODI) debut for Afghanistan against Zimbabwe on 18 October 2015 and his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut, also against Zimbabwe, on 26 October.

On 10 March 2017, Khan achieved his maiden T20I five-wicket haul during the second T20I against Ireland. His incredible figures of five wickets for three runs set a record for the best bowling performance by an Afghan cricketer in a T20I and ranked as the joint fourth-best figures in all T20Is. He also became the first player to take a five-wicket haul in just two overs in a T20I match. Afghanistan won the game, and Rashid, along with Najeeb Tarakai, shared the man of the match award.

During the ODI series against Ireland, Rashid Khan and Paul Stirling made history as the first pair of bowlers from different teams to each take six wickets in the same ODI.

On 9 June, Rashid Khan achieved his second ODI five-wicket haul, finishing with remarkable figures of 7 wickets for 18 runs against the West Indies at Gros Islet. These figures not only ranked as the fourth-best ODI bowling performance but also marked the first instance of an associate nation cricketer taking seven wickets. Afghanistan successfully defended their total of 212 runs and won the match by 63 runs, with Rashid Khan being named the man of the match.

In January 2018, the International Cricket Council (ICC) honored him as the Associate Cricketer of the Year. In the following month, he was appointed as the stand-in captain of the Afghanistan team for the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament while Afghanistan’s regular captain, Asghar Stanikzai, was recovering from an appendix removal surgery. In February 2018, the ICC recognized Khan as one of the ten players to watch ahead of the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament.

In April 2018, he was included in the Rest of the World XI squad for the one-off T20I against the West Indies, held at Lord’s on 31 May 2018. In February 2019, during the third T20I match against Ireland, he accomplished a hat-trick and took four wickets in four balls.
