Ravindra Jadeja, India’s star all-rounder, faced an untimely exit from the second Test against England after sustaining a hamstring injury during India’s pursuit of a 231-run target in Hyderabad. His injury led to a crucial runout, contributing to India’s 28-run defeat. As Jadeja embarks on the road to recovery, the severity of his injury remains unconfirmed, leaving a notable void in the Indian cricket team’s lineup.
The southpaw is now under the watchful care of former cricketer VVS Laxman at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Jadeja took to his Instagram account to share the news, posting an image of the NCA logo with the caption, “Home for the next few days.” The shift to NCA underscores the seriousness of his injury and the need for specialized rehabilitation.
With Jadeja ruled out of the second Test, the Indian team faces the challenging task of finding a suitable replacement for the world’s No. 1 Test all-rounder. In a like-for-like move, left-arm orthodox spinner Saurabh Kumar has been added to the squad for the Test in Visakhapatnam. Saurabh, a spin-bowling all-rounder, bears similarities to Jadeja’s playing style and offers a valuable option down the batting order.
However, Saurabh Kumar is not the sole contender to fill the void left by Jadeja. Another capable all-rounder, Washington Sundar, has also been included in the squad. Like Jadeja, Sundar is a left-handed batter and provides off-spin, offering a dual-threat with both bat and ball.

The selection of either Saurabh Kumar or Washington Sundar not only enhances India’s batting depth but also strengthens their bowling arsenal. The team management, led by Rohit Sharma, must carefully weigh their options to maintain a balance in both departments.
In addition to these all-rounders, Rohit Sharma has the alternative of opting for left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav, primarily as a bowling specialist. This strategic move would ensure that India remains competitive against England, especially in the bowling department.
As the Indian team strategizes for the second Test in Visakhapatnam, the absence of Ravindra Jadeja demands a thoughtful approach to maintain the equilibrium in the playing XI. The replacement selection will play a pivotal role in determining India’s chances of leveling the series against a determined England side.
