Initiated into the game at a young age through tape ball cricket in Gulistan-e-Johar, Saim Ayub, benefited from the cricketing background of his father, Ayub Ahmed, and his uncle, Mohammad Javed, both of whom played cricket at the club level. His two elder brothers also played a role in nurturing his cricketing skills.

In February 2021, Saim Ayub marked his Twenty20 debut with Quetta Gladiators during the 2021 Pakistan Super League.[3]
By March 2022, he ventured into List A cricket, making his debut for Sindh in the 2021–22 Pakistan Cup.[4]
Come September 2022, Saim Ayub entered the first-class arena, making his debut for Sindh in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2022/23.
His initial stint in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) with Quetta Gladiators in 2021 saw limited success, leading to his exclusion from the playing XI for the subsequent season. However, February 2023 brought a turning point as he played for Peshawar Zalmi in the 2023 PSL, where he garnered attention by smashing his maiden PSL half-century off 33 deliveries. Notable performances throughout the season, including a 74 off 34 against Quetta Gladiators, contributed to Peshawar Zalmi’s success. Ending the season with 341 runs at an average of 28.41 and a striking rate of 165.53 across 12 matches, Saim Ayub continued to impress.

In December 2022, he, alongside fast bowler Ihsanullah and batsman Haseebullah Khan, was selected for the national squad in the second Test match against New Zealand in Karachi to gain international exposure.
March 2023 marked his inclusion in Pakistan’s Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for the series against Afghanistan. Saim Ayub made his T20I debut on 24 March 2023. Later, on 20th November 2023, he earned a spot in Pakistan’s Test squad for the series in Australia, making his Test debut on 3rd January 2024.
