Diana Edulji, the former India Women’s cricketer, has lashed out at the Indian players for giving away their wickets at crucial junctures in the semi-final against Australis in the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup 2023. She specifically went after Shafali Verma’s shot selection and requested the team management to bring in someone else in her place.
Shafali Verma recently captained by the U-19 Women’s team to a World Cup victory, but she was below par with the bat in that tournament. She also performed below the expectations in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2023.
Diana Edulji was not impressed with Shafali Verma at all and said, “If Shafali Verma thinks she can’t be dropped then she is mistaken. I would like to see videos of her getting out, which ball has been good enough to get her out? Her shot selection is so poor.”
“Even in the U-19 World Cup, she did not perform with the bat though the team won. Let the other U-19 opener (Shweta Sehrawat) come in and take her place,” she added.
Diana Edulji also blasted the India Women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur by saying, “She is thinking the bat got stuck but if you see the second run she was jogging. Why are you running in a relaxed manner when you know when your wicket is so important? You have to play professional cricket to win. Look at the dive Perry made to save those two runs. That is what professionalism is.”
Edulji was also critical of Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues and went on to say that Indian team needs to work on its overall approach to win the important matches.
