Shardul Narendra Thakur, born on October 16, 1991, is an Indian international cricketer known for his role as a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast pace bowler. Initially, Thakur faced criticism due to his shorter stature for a fast bowler, standing at 5 feet 9 inches, and his weight, which was at 83 kg. However, he persevered and earned a spot on the Mumbai domestic team.
His first-class debut for Mumbai came in November 2012 when he played against Rajasthan in the 2012–13 Ranji Trophy at Jaipur. Subsequently, in August 2017, he was selected for India’s limited-overs squad for the series against Sri Lanka. This marked his One Day International (ODI) debut on August 31, 2017, also against Sri Lanka.
An interesting aspect of Shardul Thakur’s career was his choice to wear the number 10 jersey, previously donned by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. This decision stirred up controversy and attracted significant attention on social media. Eventually, due to the controversy surrounding this choice, Thakur switched his jersey number to 54. On November 29, 2017, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) retired Sachin Tendulkar’s No. 10 jersey.
