Shivam Dube recently shared a life-changing piece of advice he received from the legendary MS Dhoni, which played a crucial role in shaping his victorious journey in the Deodhar Trophy 2023. In a candid conversation with the BCCI, Dube expressed his deep gratitude for Dhoni’s guidance, evident in his outstanding form during the ongoing Deodhar Trophy 50-over domestic tournament for West Zone.
In a memorable match against North Zone at the Cricket Association Puducherry Siechem Ground, Dube showcased his tenacity on a challenging pitch. With West Zone struggling at 122 for 4, he displayed his skill and determination by forging a vital 138-run partnership with Kathan Patel for the 5th wicket, ultimately leading West Zone to a thrilling victory and securing a spot in the final against East Zone.
Looking back on his remarkable performance, Dube fondly recalled the invaluable advice he received from MS Dhoni during the IPL 2023 season. “I cannot express all the things… I have upgraded my game. I got to know how to finish the game, how to handle various situations, and how to tackle different bowlers; these things are more important, and many things are there, but I cannot express all of them. But, I definitely got some big tips,” he shared.

During the IPL 2023 season, representing Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings, Dube’s form was nothing short of sensational. He emerged as the team’s third-highest scorer, amassing an impressive 418 runs in 16 matches with an average of 38.00 and a striking rate exceeding 158.
What stood out was his ability to dominate spinners, smashing a staggering 30 sixes during the season, with an impressive 19 of them coming against spin bowling. This achievement made him the player with the most sixes against spin in IPL 2023. His capacity to counter-attack spinners in the middle overs proved pivotal in shifting momentum in favor of CSK in several matches. Moreover, his versatility to bat at any position in the batting order further enhanced his value to the team.
Currently, having earned a spot in the Asian Games men’s cricket squad, Dube has set his immediate goals. “For me, the goal is to finish the game with both bat and ball. It depends on the situation and the role I have for my team. I plan accordingly, and that is more important, both physically and mentally,” he confidently stated, looking forward to making more significant contributions in the upcoming challenges.
