Mohammad Shoriful Islam, born on June 3, 2001, is a talented Bangladeshi cricketer. He ventured into international cricket by making his debut for the Bangladesh national team in March 2021.
Shoriful’s journey in the world of cricket began when he made his first-class debut for Rajshahi Division during the 2017–18 National Cricket League on September 15, 2017. He further honed his skills by making his List A debut for Prime Bank Cricket Club in the 2017–18 Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League on February 7, 2018. Notably, during that season, Shoriful emerged as the joint-leading wicket-taker for Prime Bank Cricket Club, securing 17 dismissals in 8 matches.
In August 2018, Shoriful added Twenty20 cricket to his repertoire when he made his debut for Bangladesh A against Ireland A. The following day, he was among the twelve debutants selected for a 31-man preliminary squad for Bangladesh ahead of the 2018 Asia Cup.
Further opportunities came his way in October 2018, as Shoriful was named in the squad for the Khulna Titans team following the draft for the 2018–19 Bangladesh Premier League. His journey continued with his inclusion in Bangladesh’s team for the 2018 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup in December 2018. In December 2019, he was named in Bangladesh’s squad for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
January 2021 marked a significant step in Shoriful’s career when he was among four uncapped players named in a preliminary squad for the One Day International (ODI) series against the West Indies. Later the same month, he earned a spot in Bangladesh’s ODI squad for their matches against the West Indies. The following month, he was included in Bangladesh’s squad for their series against New Zealand. His journey in international cricket continued as he made his T20I debut for Bangladesh on March 28, 2021, against New Zealand.
In April 2021, Shoriful was named in Bangladesh’s preliminary Test squad for their series against Sri Lanka, eventually earning a place in the final 15-man squad for the first Test. He made his Test debut on April 29, 2021, for Bangladesh against Sri Lanka. In May 2021, he was named in Bangladesh’s ODI squad for their series against Sri Lanka, marking his ODI debut on May 25, 2021, against Sri Lanka.
The trajectory of his career saw him being included in Bangladesh’s squad for the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in September 2021 and 2023 World Cup.

Born in Panchagarh on June 3, 2001, Shoriful Islam is the son of a farmer named Dulal Mia. Familiarly known as Shoriful, he never displayed much interest in academics from a young age, and his academic journey didn’t progress beyond JSC. Instead, his heart was set on cricket, and he cherished playing the sport. His inspiration to become a cricketer ignited after witnessing Mustafizur Rahman’s impressive bowling performance against India in 2015.
