Shreyas Iyer’s father, Santosh Iyer, is a businessman who harbored a significant interest in cricket during his college years but did not pursue it further. In a Cricket County documentary featuring Shreyas, his father mentioned his own college-level cricket experience, acknowledging that he might not have been as focused as Shreyas. Recognizing his son’s talent, Santosh Iyer encouraged Shreyas to pursue cricket as a career.

According to Santosh, he discovered Shreyas’s cricketing talent when the latter was just four years old. Seeing the potential in his son, Santosh actively supported Shreyas’s passion for cricket. To nurture his talent, Shreyas was enrolled in one of Mumbai’s finest cricket academies at a young age. Acting on the advice of Pravin Amre, Santosh also ensured Shreyas switched to Don Bosco school for competitive cricket, providing him with more opportunities.

During Shreyas’s U-16 days, a dip in form raised concerns for his father, who suspected personal issues. Santosh took Shreyas to a psychologist to address the matter, but it turned out to be a common phase experienced by many players rather than any underlying problem.
