Sourav Ganguly, the former BCCI chief, believes that players should possess the capability to adapt their technique and temperament in order to perform well in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, even after a demanding Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Ganguly also expressed his satisfaction with the selection of venues for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023 in India, praising both the BCCI and ICC for their prudent decision-making.
With the release of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 schedule, which will be held in India, the cricketing community eagerly awaits the tournament’s commencement on October 5. The opening match between England and New Zealand, the finalists of the previous edition, will kickstart the exciting event. The World Cup final is scheduled to take place on November 19.
During a conversation with PTI, Sourav Ganguly was asked to share his thoughts on whether the BCCI should collaborate with IPL franchises to monitor player workload, considering the World Test Championship finals are scheduled immediately after the lucrative T20 league.

Disagreeing with this notion, Ganguly pointed out that certain players who participated in the IPL 2023 went on to deliver exceptional performances in the WTC final. He specifically mentioned Ajinkya Rahane, who showcased his skills in both the IPL and the World Test Championship.

“I don’t agree with this theory. Ajinkya Rahane also played IPL, and he played very well during IPL and the World Test Championship final. So I don’t believe in this theory. Some of the Australian boys like Cameron Green and David Warner also performed well in the IPL and made significant contributions in the World Test Championship,” Ganguly stated.
Highlighting past instances, Ganguly mentioned that there has always been a swift transition from limited-overs cricket to Test cricket, and it has never posed a significant issue. According to him, players should possess the adaptability to adjust their technique and temperament even after participating in the IPL, and they should be able to excel in Test matches.
Ganguly’s perspective emphasizes the importance of players’ ability to make the necessary adjustments and perform at their best, regardless of the demanding schedules and varying formats of the game. His belief in the players’ adaptability serves as a reminder of the skill and mental fortitude required to succeed in the Test arena, irrespective of their previous commitments in the IPL.
