Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has shown his support for Ajinkya Rahane’s selection in the playing XI for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia, which is set to begin on June 7 at The Oval in London. Ganguly believes that Rahane could capitalize on the opportunity and perform well in the game.
Ajinkya Rahane was dropped from the squad after India’s tour of South Africa in January 2022 and made his comeback in the Test squad after Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the match. Sourav Ganguly wished Rahane the best and hoped that he would bat well if he gets a chance to feature in India’s playing XI.

“I have always liked him. He has always been a good player for India. Opportunities don’t come every day, and if he gets the chance to feature in the playing XI during the WTC final, he will make the most of it. So, I wish him all the best,” Ganguly said.

Ganguly also commented on KL Rahul’s injury, which ruled him out of the WTC final. Rahul confirmed that he would undergo surgery on his thigh and would miss the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) named Karun Nair as a replacement for their skipper. Sourav Ganguly wished Rahul a speedy recovery and acknowledged that injuries were part and parcel of the game.
“Injuries are part of the sport. These boys keep playing all the years, so injuries will happen. So, I wish him a speedy recovery,” Ganguly concluded.
The WTC final is set to be an exciting encounter, and with Ganguly’s support, Rahane will undoubtedly be motivated to make a significant impact in the game if given the opportunity.
