Smith’s journey to 9000 Test runs has been nothing short of extraordinary. Since his debut in 2010, he has faced numerous challenges, including a suspension from international cricket in 2018. However, he has always bounced back stronger, solidifying his position as one of the finest batsmen of his generation.

During the first day of the second Ashes Test at Lord’s Stadium in London, Steve Smith once again etched his name in the record books. He became the quickest Australian batsman to achieve the milestone of 9000 runs in Test cricket, showcasing his exceptional skills.

Smith’s unwavering determination and perseverance have been evident throughout his career, and this latest achievement adds another feather to his illustrious cap. His ability to score runs at a rapid pace showcases his mastery and unwavering passion for the game. It comes as no surprise that he is widely regarded as one of the world’s premier batsmen.

Smith required 31 runs to reach the milestone and remained unbeaten, crafting a magnificent half-century after Australia was asked to bat first in challenging conditions by Ben Stokes. He achieved the feat in his 99th Test match.

Steve Smith took 174 innings to reach the coveted 9000-run mark, surpassing Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara, who held the record previously. However, Smith did break Australia’s own record set by Ricky Ponting, who achieved the milestone in 177 innings during an Ashes Test against England in Brisbane back in 2006. Smith has also achieved the feat quicker than renowned players like Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar.

In terms of the number of matches played to reach the milestone, Smith has accomplished it in just 99 Test matches, surpassing the previous record held by Brian Lara, who achieved the feat in his 101st Test match.
