Sunil Gavaskar explains how getting used as an ‘Impact Player’ is costing Ambati Rayudu is form

Rayudu has managed to score just 83 runs in eight outings in IPL 2023 at an average of just 16.60.

Just like MS Dhoni, Ambati Rayudu too has reached the twilight of his career. However, he has failed to show his class in the ongoing IPL season. Rayudu has managed to score just 83 runs in eight outings in IPL 2023 at an average of just 16.60.

Talking on this matter, former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar stressed on the fact that he has mostly been used only as a batter or an Impact Player by CSK. Gavaskar also gave Delhi Capitals batter Prithvi Shaw’s example to strengthen his point.

“You got to field. You can’t just come out to bat and start hitting the ball. You can’t do that. We have seen that with Prithvi Shaw. He has just been coming out to bat without success. No fielding, no scoring. Rayudu is out for a second-ball duck,” Gavaskar said on commentary when Rayudu got out.

Yesterday’s match between CSK and RR was a high scoring encounter. Batting first, RR set a massive target of 203 runs on the back of a power-packed 77 runs from Yashasvi Jaiswal. Batting second, CSK failed to do much and lost the match by 32 runs. Shivam Dube hit a fighting half-century in the run chase.

RR are on 10 points and the margin of victory helped get their net run rate, which had taken a beating after they suffered back to back losses, to 0.939. This put them above Gujarat Titans and CSK, both of whom are on 10 points each.
