Suryakumar Yadav is the captain of the Indian team in T20. He has defeated Hardik Pandya in this race. But the doors of the ODI team are closed for Suryakumar Yadav. When the selection committee met for the Sri Lanka tour, Suryakumar Yadav’s name was not even discussed for the ODI series. This was revealed by Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar in a press conference on Monday.
Suryakumar is a great batter in T20. There is no one to match him in this format. But Suryakumar has not been able to prove himself in ODIs. He could not make an impact in all the opportunities he got. However, this is not the reason behind Suryakumar not being selected in the ODI team. The reason behind this is three players.
Who are those three players?
Before leaving for the Sri Lanka tour, Team India’s new head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar held a press conference in Mumbai on Monday. Agarkar said that the team has excellent middle order batsmen in the form of Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, so Suryakumar was not selected in the ODIs.
In this conference, questions were raised about Suryakumar not being selected in the ODI team. On this, Ajit Agarkar said, “Suryakumar’s name was not discussed for ODIs. Shreyas Iyer has returned to the ODI team, KL Pant has also returned. So we have many good middle order players. Therefore, Suryakumar’s name was not discussed for the ODI team.
At this time Suryakumar is only a T20 player for us.” Suryakumar’s ODI career Suryakumar has played 37 ODIs for India in which he has scored 773 runs at an average of 25.76. In so many ODIs, Suryakumar has scored four half-centuries while not a single century. Suryakumar played his last ODI for India against Australia on 19 November 2023 in the final of the ODI World Cup.
