Suryakumar Yadav’s life took a pivotal turn when his family relocated from Ghazipur to Mumbai due to his father’s job offer when he was 10 years old. This move set the stage for his cricketing aspirations. His educational background is as follows:
- Surya attended the Atomic Energy Central School in Mumbai for his early education.
- He pursued his intermediate education at the Atomic Energy Junior College in Mumbai.
- Graduating with a B.Com degree from the Pillai College of Arts, Commerce, and Science, Mumbai, he met his future wife, Devisha Shetty, who is a dance coach.
As the saying goes, “Every expert was once a beginner,” and this certainly applies to Suryakumar Yadav’s cricket journey. He began his cricketing endeavors playing gully cricket in Varanasi, like many aspiring young Indian cricketers. While initially interested in both badminton and cricket, he eventually chose cricket as his sole focus, guided by his father’s advice.
His cricketing journey took flight under the tutelage of his paternal uncle, Vinod Kumar Yadav, who became his first cricket coach in Varanasi. However, a move to Mumbai brought him under the mentorship of Ashok Kamat, who coached him at the BARC colony.

During this time, he played age-group cricket at the Parsi Gymkhana Cricket Club and continued honing his skills, also participating in club cricket for teams like Shivaji Park Gymkhana, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, and Dadar Union Club.
After eight years of relentless hard work and training, he was selected to represent the Mumbai Team in 2010. Suryakumar Yadav made his List A cricket debut in 2010 and played in the 2010-11 Ranji Season. His T20 debut for Mumbai followed in March 2010 against Hyderabad, and later that year, he made his first-class cricket debut against Delhi, impressively scoring 73 runs off 89 balls.
Suryakumar Yadav’s exceptional performance in domestic cricket eventually earned him a spot in the international scene. In 2021, he was selected for India’s T20 International squad, making his debut on March 14th, 2021, against England. His debut was spectacular, hitting a six on the very first ball, a feat never before achieved by an Indian. He also scored a fifty in the same match and was subsequently selected for India’s ODI squad for the England series. Suryakumar Yadav’s journey from gully cricket to international stardom is a testament to his talent and perseverance in the world of cricket.
