  • IPL 2022, PBKS VS KKR: Russell Muscles Punjab Kings

PBKS vs KKR encounter at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai was a low scoring game that Kolkata Knight Riders easily won with Andre Russell’s blazing inning.

Fresh off a successful 210 run chase, Punjab Kings had a dismal batting display against Knight Riders to finish their innings on 137 runs.

In reply, Kolkata Knight Riders eclipsed the target within 15 overs on the back of Andre Russell’s 70 off 31, comprising 8 massive sixes.

    At the Toss:

Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided that KKR would bowl first and also revealed that Shivam Mavi was included in playing XI in place of Sheldon Jackson. Punjab Kings captain too announced that they had made a change in their team to bring Kagiso Rabada into the playing XI.

    PBKS Innings:

Punjab Kings had a horrible start with their skipper Mayank Aggarwal being sent back into the pavilion by Umesh Yadav on only 1 run. Bhankua Rajapaksa replaced Mayank on the crease to play a momentum-shifting inning of 31 runs in just 9 deliveries. Rajapaksa was sent back into the pavilion by young Shivam Mavi.

Shikhar Dhawan followed Rajapaksa in the dugout after his difficult stay in the middle was ended by Tim Southee. Livingstone and Raj Bawa did try to consolidate the innings, but Umesh Yadav was on fire. Yadav dismissed both Libinstone and Bawa in quick succession to put KKR on the front foot against PBKS.

Following Bawa’s dismissal, no batter showed any application except Kagiso Rabada in the death overs. Rabada played an enterprising knock of 25 off 16 to help his team propel to 137/10 in 18.2 overs. For KKR, Umesh Yadav registered his career-best performance in IPL with 4 wickets for 23 runs in his quota of 4 overs at the PBKS vs KKR battle.

    KKR Innings:

Chasing a paltry 137, Kolkata had a patchy start, with Ajinkya Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer failing to provide a solid start. Iyer could only manage 3 off 7, while Rahane scored 12 off 11. Iyer was removed by Odean Smith, while Rabada sent back the dogged Ajinkya Rahane.

Shreyas Iyer, the KKR captain, was, however, unphased with the dismissal of the openers and played a fiery but short inning of 26 off 15. Rahul Chahar removed Shreyas and Nitish Rana in quick succession to give some hope to Punjab fans.

With 4 wickets down, KKR needed a partnership to take them over the finish line. Andre Russell and Sam Billings combined to form an unbeaten stand of 90 runs for the 5th wicket to win the match for their team. Russell, in particular, was destructive as he deposited Punjab bowlers for 8 huge sixes in his inning of 70* not out in 31 balls at PBKS vs KKR clash.

KKR easily won the match in 14.3 overs to register 2 more points in Tata IPL 2022.

  • IPL 2022, LSG VS CSK: Lucknow Successfully Chased 211 for First Win

LSG vs CSK, the 7th match of the ongoing Tata IPL 2022, saw batters dismantle the bowlers to score over 420 runs in the game.

Chennai posted a huge total of 210 runs on the board on the back of brilliant performances from Robin Uthappa and Shivam Dube.

However, KL Rahul’s troops did not let the scoreboard rattle them and ended up on the winning side following some great hitting by Evin Lewis and Ayush Badoni.

    At the toss:

Lokesh Rahul won the toss and opted to bowl first, considering the due impact in the 2nd innings. Rahul mentioned that Andrew Tye was included in the XI after missing out in the first match against Gujarat. At the same time, Jadeja announced that Moeen Ali had joined the playing XI in place of Devon Conway.

    CSK Innings:

Chennai Super Kings had a fantastic start with Robin Uthappa in complete attack mode taking apart the LSG bowlers. However, a miscommunication between Gaikwad and Uthappa led to the former’s dismissal.

Gaikwad’s unfortunate dismissal did not phase Uthappa, who kept going after the bowlers with Moeen Ali for a 56 run stand for the 2nd wicket. Uthappa scored a blitzing 50 off 27 while Moeen Ali played an exotic knock of 35 off 22. Ravi Bishnoi sent back Uthappa while Avesh Khan accounted for Moeen Ali.

Dube and Rayudu constructed a 60 runs stand for the 4th wicket, following Ali and Robin. The duo carried on the run rate with some exquisite stroke play. Rayudu made 27 off 20 before attempting a cross-batted slog on Bishnoi’s bowling to get dismissed.

On the other hand, Dube fell short of a deserved half-century and contributed 49 off 30. The last few overs were a treat for CSK fans as MS Dhoni, and Ravindra Jadeja played exhilarating shots. Dhoni hit a first-ball six and remained unbeaten on 16* off 6 as CSK posted 210/7 in the 20 overs.

    LSG Innings:

Chasing a mammoth 210, Lucknow required a partnership at the top to allow the middle-order to play freely. Giants openers Rahul and Quinton de Kock took the responsibility on their shoulders to form a 99 run stand for the 1st in just 10.2 overs. Both Rahul and de Kock had a catch dropped on them early in the innings that immensely helped LSG’s cause in the long chase.

Dwaine Pretorius opened up the doors for a CSK comeback by deceiving KL Rahul through a slower ball to get his prized wicket. Rahul notched up 40 off 26. Following Rahul, Manish Pandey again failed to leave his mark on the game as he could only generate 5 off 6 on his short stay on the crease.

With two quick dismissals, LSG stuttered a little, with Quinton de Kock finding it hard to pierce the gap in the field. Ultimately de Kock’s troubled stay in the middle was ended by Pretorius to put CSK in a commanding position. The wicket-keeper batsman scored 61 off 45, including 9 fours.

Evin Lewis and Deepak Hooda tried bringing LSG back in the hunt with a few sixes and boundaries, but CSK kept bowling in the right areas to maintain the required run rate above 12. Hooda perished on 13 while attempting to slog a full toss from Dwayne Bravo and his wicket brought Ayush Badoni to the crease.

Super Kings’ flawed strategy of bowling its premium bowlers before the penultimate 19th and 20th over destroyed its chances of winning the game. In the 19th over, Shivam Dube, who had not bowled even a single over in the innings, came to bowl in front of well set Evin Lewis and Ayush Badoni. Lewis and Badoni dispatched him for sixes and fours to collect 25 runs in the over and bring the equation down to 9 runs in the last over.

Badoni finished the match in style in the 20th over on the first two balls by dispatching the debutant Mukesh Chaudhary for consecutive boundaries.

  • Women’s CWC 2022: England Beats South Africa in Semifinal

England Women defeated South Africa Women by 137 runs in the 2nd semifinal of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 to reach the finals.

The defending champions outclassed the Proteas in every department to secure a place against undefeated Australia Women in the final scheduled to be played on 3rd April 2022 from 6:30 AM IST onwards.

Danielle Wyatt rose on the big occasion to register a classy hundred that took England beyond the reach of South Africa Women.

Here’s how the match panned out:

South African skipper Sune Luus won the toss and opted to bowl first at Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

England Women batting first was under pressure to post a significant total on the board to defend. The English opener Danielle Wyatt absorbed the pressure and played a match-defining knock of 129 runs in 125 deliveries.

Wyatt kept the one end intact for most of the England innings. Meanwhile, wickets kept falling at regular intervals from the other end.

England was 126/4 when Sophia Dunkley entered the crease to partner Danielle Wyatt for a tremendous fifth-wicket partnership. Sophia notched up 60 off 72 and formed an essential stand of 116 runs before Wyatt was sent back into the pavilion by Masabata Klaas.

The partnership between Wyatt and Dunkley took the game away from South Africa as England Women posted a massive total of 293/8 in 50 overs. For Proteas, Ismail was the most successful bowler with three wickets in her quota of 10 overs.

Chasing 294, South Africa needed two impactful stands to get over the finish line. However, no player from South Africa was able to cross 30 runs mark in the entire chase. England Women wrapped up the South African innings on 156 runs to enter the finals in the Women’s World Cup twice in a row.

Sophie Eccelstone was brilliant with her length and line and picked up 6 wickets in 8 overs to break the spine of the South African chase.

  • IPL 2022, RCB VS KKR: RCB triumphs in a topsy-turvy game

RCB vs KKR clash at DY Patil stadium in Mumbai was a low-scoring game in which RCB came out on top to register the first two points in the tournament.

RCB bowlers heavily impressed with their skill set to wrap up the Knight Riders’ innings on a paltry 128 runs. In reply, RCB was in all sorts of trouble after losing three early wickets but somehow managed to chase down the total with contributions from Shahbaz Ahmed, Sherfane Rutherford, Dinesh Karthik and Harshal Patel.

    At the toss:

Royal Challengers skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bowl first, an expected decision in the IPL 2022 by toss winning captains.

    KKR Innings:

Invited to bat first, Knight Riders did not have a great start, with their openers departing without any significant scores. Akashdeep Singh was the first one to strike for Royal Challengers. He dismissed Venkatesh Iyer by hurrying him on a short ball. Mohammed Siraj joined in the party with the dismissal of Ajinkya Rahane, also on a short ball in the RCB vs KKR clash.

None of the Knight Riders batters showed any application and patience to stay on the crease. In the bid to keep the scoring rate high, the KKR batters self-destructed and kept getting out in quick succession. Wanindu Hasaranga worked his magic in the middle overs to send back Shreyas Iyer, Sunil Narine and Sheldon Jackson.

Russell tried showing his muscles, and Billings attempted to bill the RCBians heavily, but both were too hasty in their approach to counter the Challengers’ bowlers. Andre Russell scored 25 off 18, including three massive sixes, before being dismissed by Harshal Patel in a wicket-maiden over in the RCB vs KKR battle.

The last-wicket pair between Umesh Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy frustrated the RCBian bowlers and added 27 runs to finish the Knight Riders innings on 128/10 in 18.5 overs.

    RCB Innings:

Chasing a meagre 129, Royal Challengers Bangalore stuttered in the powerplay, with Anuj Rawat, Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli departing with only 17 runs on the board. Umesh Yadav removed Rawat and Kohli while Tim Southee sent back the RCB captain du Plessis.

RCB promoted David Willey and Sherfane Rutherford in the batting order at numbers 4 and 5 to disrupt the Knight Riders’ momentum. Willey and Rutherford put up a 45 run stand for the fourth wicket to frustrate KKR bowlers for a few overs. David Willey notched up 18 off 28 before Sunil Narine sent him back into the dressing room in the RCB vs KKR game.

Shahbaz Ahmed succeeded Willey and changed the match circumstances by depositing Andre Russell in the stands for two huge sixes. However, Varun Chakravarthy dismissed Ahmed on 27 off 20 on the last ball of the 16th over. The equation stood at 28 off 24 balls for RCB to win the match with Rutherford and Karthik on the crease.

Sheldon Jackson pulled off a blinder behind the wickets to remove the well-set Rutherford on 28, and Hasaranga followed Sherfane back into the pavilion only two balls later. In the last two overs, RCB required 17 runs to secure victory in the game, with Karthik and Harshal on the crease. Harshal Patel sent two balls to the boundary in the 19th over to reduce the equation to 7 off 6 balls to win. Karthik smashed Russell for two back to back boundaries in the final over to win the match for RCB.

  • Women’s CWC 2022: Australia Cruises through Semifinal

Australia Women defeated West Indies Women by 157 runs in the first semifinal of ICC Women’s CWC 2022, reduced to 45 overs per side due to the rain at Basin Reserve stadium in Wellington.

Australia posted a massive total of 305/3 on the back of Alyssa Healy’s exceptional hundred combined with Rachael Haynes’s 85 runs. Lanning and Beth Mooney, too, were sensational in the death overs for the Australian Women’s team.

West Indies Women had no chance of chasing the colossal total in 45 overs due to the inconsistent form of their players in the tournamnet.

Here’s how the match turned out:

Stefanie Taylor won the toss and opted to bowl first, keeping in mind that the Duckworth Lewis system might probably play a role in the result if the rain had struck again.

Invited to bat first, Australia Women seemed determined to register their dominance from the very beginning. The duo of Healy and Haynes formed a gigantic 216 runs stand for the first wicket to take the game away from the Caribbeans.

Alyssa Healy scored 129 off 107, including 17 fours and a six. In the latter part of the innings, Meg Lanning and Mooney remained unbeaten on 26* and 43* respectively, to power the Australian inning beyond 300. Chinelle Henry was the only bowler who posed a few threats to the Australians. She picked up two wickets in her 9 overs for 51 runs.

Chasing a mammoth 305, West Indies Women were never in contention to win the match. The Caribbeans self-destructed to wrap up the innings on a paltry 148 in 37 overs. Jess Jonassen picked 2 wickets while five other bowlers picked one wicket each in the semifinal.

Australia Women will play the final on 3rd April 2022 against the winner of the clash between South Africa Women and England Women in the 2nd semifinal of the tournament.

  • IPL 2022, RR VS SRH: Rajasthan Vanquished the Sunrisers

RR vs SRH encounter at MCA stadium in Pune was a lopsided affair, with Rajasthan outperforming Sunrises in every aspect of the game.

Rajasthan Royals posted a gigantic total of 210 in the 20 overs owing to some brilliant hitting by Sanju Samson, Devdutt Padikkal and Shimron Hetmyer.

Sunrisers Hyderabad, in reply, fell short by 61 runs that heavily dented its net run-rate in the opening game for the team.

    At the toss:

    RR VS SRH toss

Following in the footsteps of other franchisees and their decision to chase and win in the tournament, Kane Williamson chose to bowl first after winning the toss at MCA stadium in Pune.

    RR Innings:

Rajasthan Royals fans had their heart in their mouth when Bhuvneshwar Kumar got rid of Jos Butler, but unfortunately for SRH, the bowl turned out to be a no-ball. Butler then scored 35 off 28 and put up a 58 runs stand for the first wicket with Yashasvi Jaiswal.

After Jaiswal and Butler, Samson and Padikkal took the reigns of the innings and continued the momentum carried by the opening duo. Sanju Samson blasted the Hyderabad bowlers to score a blazing 55 off 27, including 5 massive sixes.

Devdutt Padikkal batted at the number 4 position for the first time in his IPL career, but that did not make any difference to his run-scoring abilities. He notched up 41, including 2 sixes and 4 fours at a brisk strike rate to take RR closer to 200.

Shimron Hetmyer and Riyan Parag finished the innings in the most Royal way possible. Hetmyer, in particular, was merciless and smashed 32 off just 13 deliveries to help Rajasthan breach the 200 runs mark.

For Sunrisers, Umran Malik and Natrajan bowled well to get two wickets each but could not stop the Royals from posting 210/6 in the RR vs SRH clash.

    SRH Innings:

Chasing 210, Hyderabad lacked the self-belief and confidence to hunt for boundaries in the first six overs. Kane Williamson and Rahul Tripathi were sent back to the pavilion in quick succession by the Prasidh Krishna in RR vs SRH encounter.

Trent Boult partnered well with Krishna to get the third scalp for the Royals by removing dangerous Nicholas Pooran on a duck. Both Prasidh and Boult bowled a maiden over in the powerplay to diminish the hopes of Sunrisers.

In the middle overs, Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin did not let the SRH batters break the shackles. Chahal removed three batters to completely extinguish the Sunrisers’ spirit.

In the death overs, SRH got a few positives out of the match in the form of Washington Sundar and Aiden Markram’s batting. Sundar, in particular, was explosive throughout his short inning in which he generated 40 runs off just 14 balls consisting of 7 boundaries. Markram remained unbeaten on 57* off 41.

SRH could only manage 149/7 in the 20 overs to start their campaign with a loss at Tata IPL 2022.

  • IPL 2022, GT VS LSG: Titans Overpowered the Super Giants

The GT vs LSG clash was exhilarating, with Titans coming out on top at the end of the match.

Lucknow Super Giants posted 158 on the board with great knocks from Deepak Hooda and young Ayush Badoni. However, the total was always going to be a few runs short because of the due that falls in Wankhede during the 2nd inning of the match at night.

    At the Toss:

Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bowl first against his dear friend KL Rahul’s Super Giants.

    LSG Innings:

Lucknow had the worst start imaginable, with KL Rahul getting dismissed on the first ball of the match. Mohammed Shami was in absolute prime in the GT vs LSG battle. He got the first ball to come back into the righthander Rahul who had no idea what had brushed his bat on its way to the keeper. Rahul was given not-out by the onfield umpire, but Shami and Mathew Wade were convinced that the Giants captain had nicked it and insisted Pandya take a successful review.

Shami was all over the Giants during the field restrictions. Pandya showed faith in him to give him 3 overs on the trot. Shami responded with 3 wickets for the Titans, including Rahul, Quinton de Kock and Manish Pandey. Varun Aaron removed the dangerous Evin Lewis to add to Giants’ trouble. Lucknow was tottering at 29-4 in 4.3 overs when Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni combined to form a gritty alliance.

Hooda and Badoni stayed away from taking unnecessary risks and only tried to rotate the strike in the initial phase of the partnership. Badoni, in particular, was struggling and could not get the timing right on many occasions. However, Hooda made his intentions clear after the strategic time-out and deposited Titans for two huge sixes. After smashing Pandya for three successive boundaries, Badoni reacted to his partner’s clamour and found his mojo.

Hooda and Badoni changed the tide of the match and registered 55 and 54 runs, respectively, for the Giants. Krunal Pandya played a lovely cameo of 21 runs in the death overs for the Giants in GT vs LSG clash.

    GT Innings:

Gujarat Titans had a feeble start with Dushmantha Chameera sending Shubhman Gill and Vijay Shankar cheaply into the dug-out. In a surprising moment, Hardik Pandya promoted himself up the order to bat at no. 4. Pandya played some good looking shots and consolidated the GT innings with Mathew Wade.

Wade and Pandya formed a 57 runs stand for the third wicket to take Titans to 72 in 10 overs. However, Krunal Pandya and Deepak Hooda dismissed Hardik Pandya and Mathew Wade in quick succession to pile up the pressure on Gujarat Titans. Hardik scored 33 while Wade managed 30 runs. The duo of Rahul Tewatia and David Miller succeeded the pair of Pandya and Wade.

The two left-handers moved cautiously initially, but KL Rahul’s move of handing the crucial 16th over to Hooda allowed them to break the shackles. Tewatia and Miller dismantled Hooda to collect 21 runs off his over. Suddenly, the equation seemed in favour of the Titans; however, Miller’s wicket in the 19th over did light up a flicker of hope for Super Giants, but the young Abhinav finished the match in style. He scored a quickfire 15 off just 7 balls.

Tewatia remained unbeaten on 40* off 24 while Miller contributed a significant 30 off 21.

RCB VS PBKS encounter at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai was filled with massive sixes and glorious fours. Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, Dinesh Karthik, Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Odean Smith played extravagant knocks in the run-fest between the two teams.

Royal Challengers batted first to post a massive total of 205 runs on the board but failed to defend against Punjab Kings’ power-hitters heavy batting line-up.

    At the Toss:

Faf du Plessis and Mayank Agarwal with IPL trophy. (RCB VS PBKS)

Mayank Agarwal playing his first match as the newly appointed captain, won the toss for Punjab Kings and opted to bowl first because of the due expected to fall in the 2nd innings of the match.

    RCB Innings:

Royal Challengers had a constraint start with Faf Du Plessis struggling to get the timing right. Anuj Rawat did try to strike a few to ropes but did not get that much of a strike in the first 6 overs.

RCB could only muster 41 runs during the field restrictions but did not lose any wickets on a positive note. Rawat departed in the 7th over when he tried to muscle Rahul Chahar’s bowling out of the stadium.

Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis (RCB VS PBKS)

Kohli then joined Faf in the middle to up the ante for the RCB Innings. The duo did not take any risks before the 10th over and continued to build the foundation by stealing ones and twos in the middle. After the strategic time, Kohli became the aggressor and deposited a huge six off Harpreet Brar to break the shackles.

Faf responded to Kohli’s chivalry and launched a few massive sixes to turn his inning around. His strike rate after the 30 balls skyrocketed above 300 to propel RCB beyond 200. Faf played an enterprising knock of 88 off 57, including 7 gigantic sixes.

Kohli and Faf formed a 118 run stand for the 2nd wicket and did not let the RCB fans miss the presence of ABD. Dinesh Karthik succeeded Faf and played a quickfire 32* off 14 with 3 sixes and 3 fours to ensure that RCB finished 205/2 in 20 overs. Kohli remained unbeaten on 41* at the end of the RCB innings.

    PBKS Innings:

Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan did not get rattled by the huge task in front of them. The duo reaped the benefits of field restrictions and propelled Punjab to above 60 runs in the first 6 overs. Agarwal on 31 was sent back into the dressing room by a diving Shahbaz Ahmed at square-leg.

Mayank Agarwal in RCB VS PBKS clash

Bhanuka Rajapaksa then entered the fray at DY Patil Stadium to smash the RCBian bowlers. His explosive partnership with Dhawan kept the run-rate under control in the high-scoring game. Both Dhawan and Rajapaksa scored 43 each while playing the role of anchor and aggressor, respectively. Rajapaksa made a mockery of Wanindu Hasaranga in his exciting knock consisting of 4 big ones.

Following Rajapaksa, Livingstone and Raj Bawa’s stay on the crease did not last long as Mohammed Siraj sent both of them back into the pavilion. All responsibility then fell on Odean Smith and Shahrukh Khan to take Punjab over the finish line.

Odean Smith hitting a tennis ball six (RCB VS PBKS)

Smith and Shahrukh opened up their hands in the 18th over against Siraj to collect 25 runs off the over. Odean Smith, in particular, muscled Siraj out of the park to clear the way for Kings to chase down the mammoth total. In the end, Punjab won with one over to spare by 5 wickets to become the only team in IPL history to have chased down four totals in excess of 200 successfully.

Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel destroyed Mumbai Indians in the last five overs to help their team defeat Mumbai by 4 wickets in the DC vs MI clash at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

Ishan Kishan’s whirlwind of an inning in the DC vs MI clash helped Mumbai Indians reach 177 but the total proved short to defend against the bold batting of Delhi batters.

    At the toss:

DC VS MI toss ceremony, Tata IPL 2022

Delhi Capitals won the toss and chose to bowl first against the star-studded Mumbai Indians. Rishabh Pant announced that only two overseas players would play for Delhi in its first game of the season. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians distributed debut caps to many players against the Capitals.

    Playing XIs:

DC: Prithvi Shaw, Tim Seifert, Mandeep Singh, Rishabh Pant (Captain & Wicketkeeper), Rovman Powell, Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Khaleel Ahmed and Kamlesh Nagarkoti

MI: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Ishan Kishan (Wicketkeeper), Anmolpreet Singh, Tilak Varma, Kieron Pollard, Tim David, Daniel Sams, Murugan Ashwin, Tymal Mills, Jasprit Bumrah and Basil Thampi

    MI Innings:

Mumbai Indians started handsomely with both opener Rohit Sharma, and Ishan Kishan played explosively in the powerplay. The duo formed a formidable stand of 67 runs for the first wicket in 8.2 overs before Rohit Sharma was caught out on Kuldeep Yadav’s bowling.

Anmolpreet Singh, the young right-handed batter, succeeded Rohit on the crease but failed to leave an impact in his first appearance for the five-time champions. He only managed 8 off 9 before being dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav.

Ishan Kishan pulling Axar Patel (DC VS MI)

Tilak Varma, the young left-handed debutant, impressed greatly with his enterprising knock of 22 in 15, including 3 beautiful boundaries in the DC vs MI clash. Kieron Pollard came in when Varma timed it straight to Prithvi Shaw at third-man. Pollard’s stay did not last long as a great catch from Tim Seifert removed him on Kuldeep’s bowling.

Ishan Kishan took centre stage in the last 4 overs to power Mumbai Indians to 177. He dismantled Shardul Thakur in the final overs with little support from Tim David and Daniel Sams to take Indians to a respectable total.

    DC Innings:

Delhi Capitals had a dazzling start with Tim Seifert and Prithvi Shaw taking the Mumbai bowlers head-on. Seifert was going at an express pace with his little burst at the front. However, Rohit Sharma’s trick of bringing the spinner, Murugan Ashwin, produced rewards as he removed the threatening Seifert on 21 and the next batter, Mandeep Singh, on a duck.

Rishabh Pant, Delhi Capitals’ captain, had the responsibility of forming a partnership with Prithvi Shaw to stabilise Delhi’s innings after two quick wickets. But Tymal Mills got the big one to go back on just 1 run to pile the pressure on Delhi Capitals.

Shaw pulling Thampi (DC VS MI)

Capitals promoted Lalit Yadav up the order to bat at no. 5 and form an alliance with Shaw in the middle. The duo did light a flicker of hope in Delhi’s camp with some glorious strokeplay, but Shaw mistimed a pull on 38 off Basil Thampi to go back into the pavilion.

Rovman Powell, the West Indian power-hitter, could not stay for long at the crease and was removed on 1 run by Basil Thampi to almost end all the hopes for DC vs MI. Shardul Thakur came in with a zeal to hit every ball, but his enthusiasm lasted for a few minutes before being dismissed at 22 off 11 by Thampi.

When 56 was required in the last 5 overs, all hope seemed lost for Delhi. However, Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel refused to surrender and smashed MI’s premium bowler Bumrah for 15 runs in the 16th over to bring some life into the chase.

Delhi Capitals ended up winning with 10 balls to spare. Lalit Yadav scored unbeaten 48* off 38 while Axar Patel blasted 38* off 17, consisting of 3 huge sixes to help their team eclipse MI’s total.
