    Sarfaraz Khan Century Celebration

With 13 First Class hundreds in just 50 innings, no other batter has scored more runs than Sarfaraz in the last three years. He averages 80 in red-ball cricket, which is only second to the legendary Don Bradman. Yet, despite his outstanding numbers, he was not selected for the Test series, leaving fans and experts questioning the selectors’ decision.

Added to the disappointment was the fact that Sarfaraz’s Mumbai teammate, Suryakumar Yadav, who is primarily a T20I expert, was picked ahead of him. But, in an exclusive interview with veteran sports journalist Vimal Kumar, Sarfaraz broke his silence and shared his thoughts on the matter.

“Surya getting selected is inspirational for me. We are good friends and have spent a lot of time together. I have learned a lot from him, and he also had to wait for a long time for this opportunity. He will bring his experience to the team,” Sarfaraz said. He went on to say that he is happy for his friend and that he’s only inspired by SKY’s selection.

Huge Blow for Team India: Iyer likely to miss Test Series vs AUS, Suryakumar to make Test debut and Sarfaraz to receive maiden Test call

The 4-Match Test Series between India and Australia starting on 9 February will decide who will be the finalists of World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23. However, just before the Test Series bad news struck Team India.

India’s star middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer is likely to miss the upcoming Test series against Australia due to back injury.

A senior BCCI official told InsideSport, “Shreyas will report at the NCA in a couple of days and will begin his rehab. He needs to undergo further tests to understand the severity. From what we know so far, he is a big doubt for the first 2-3 Tests. But we still have time and if he does recover in time, then obviously he will play.”

Incase Shreyas Iyer doesn’t get fit in time, Suryakumar Yadav who recently returned to Ranji Trophy is likely to make his Test debut and Sarfaraz Khan who is in the form of his life is likely to receive his maiden Test call.

“Go to a fashion show…” Gavaskar slams selectors in a funny way after Sarfaraz’s snub

Sarfaraz Khan’s performance in the domestic circuit in the last few years has been extraordinary. His BACK-TO-BACK centuries in the Ranji Trophy has made many Cricket legends his fans.

"Go to a fashion show…" Gavaskar slams selectors in a funny way after Sarfaraz's snub

Talking on this topic, Sunil Gavaskar has extended his support to Sarfaraz Khan and has slammed Chetan Sharma-led All India Selection Committee for ignoring this rising star amid his red-hot form in the domestic arena.

“If you are looking for only slim and trim guys, then might as well go to a fashion show and find some other models and give a bat and ball in their hands and then improve them. That’s not the way cricket goes. You have cricketers in all shapes and sizes. Don’t go by the size, go by the scores or wickets. He is not staying off the field when he scores a hundred. He is back on the field again. So, all that tells you is that the man is fit,” Gavaskar told India Today.

The legendary cricketer also asserted that the Yo-Yo Test can never be the only criteria for selection.

“How can you score runs? I think at the end of the day if you are unfit, you aren’t gonna score hundreds. Cricket fitness is the most important thing. Yo-Yo Test can’t be the only criterion. You got to make sure that the man is cricket fit as well. If the person, whoever it is, is cricket fit, then I don’t think it should matter,” Gavaskar added.

Till now, he has failed to showcase his potential in IPL, but this can be the year that turns it around for him. LSG management has shown great trust in him, and we can expect Gautam Gambhir to mentor him and guide him towards a great edition with the bat.

    7- Glenn Phillips

Glenn Phillips is a rising star in world cricket. He recently helped New Zealand win a match against Pakistan singlehandedly by scoring a quick-fire fifty. Phillips is going to represent Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2023, and he can be the most dangerous batter in this year’s edition.
