Vijay Shankar, the Tamil Nadu all-rounder, has been hitting the ball out of the park in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2022-23 season. He’s been converting his starts into big scores, hitting his first century of the season against Mumbai, followed by another against Maharashtra, and then completing a hat-trick of centuries against Assam in a big win.
But it’s not just his on-field performances that have been making waves. In a recent tweet, Shankar shared his own definition of “3D” – a term that was coined for him by the then chief selector MSK Prasad after his selection in the 2019 World Cup squad.
Shankar wrote, “Desire•Discipline•Determination #Chepauk #dreamcometruemoment.” He further explained that these three attributes are what he believes is the key to success in not just cricket but in all aspects of life.
Despite not being included in the team after the World Cup, Shankar is back on the radar of the selectors after his outstanding run in the domestic circuit. With India’s need for a pace-bowling all-rounder due to Hardik Pandya’s inability to play Test cricket, Shankar could be a strong candidate for the national team. Although he hasn’t played red-ball cricket for India yet, he has accumulated 223 runs and 4 wickets in 12 ODIs, plus he has 101 runs and 5 wickets in the T20Is.
With his impressive performances and strong attitude, Shankar is proving to be a true “3D” player.
