Former Sri Lanka all-rounder Farveez Maharoof has made a big prediction about Indian cricket team’s Virat Kohli, stating that the 2023 ODI World Cup in India will be Kohli’s tournament if he continues to perform at his current level.
Kohli has been in exceptional form recently. He had a Player of the Match performance in the third ODI against Sri Lanka on January 15th, where he scored 166* off 110 balls. He was also named Player of the Series for his 283 runs at an average of 141.50 and a strike rate of 137.38 in the series. This also included his two centuries.
Maharoof, who has labeled Virat Kohli as the greatest of all time in cricket, believes that the 2023 World Cup in India presents the perfect opportunity for Kohli to bring home another World Cup win, like he did in 2011. He went on to praise Kohli’s ability to understand and pace his innings, saying, “I don’t think anyone in the world does it better than him.”
Former India Test opener Wasim Jaffer also praised Kohli’s form and work ethic, stating that it was no surprise to see him performing well after a three-year lean patch. He also said that Kohli’s form is big news for the Indian team heading into the World Cup.
Kohli’s recent form has been impressive, with a century in the opening ODI against Sri Lanka and another century in the third ODI against Bangladesh in December 2022. With the World Cup set to be played in the second half of 2023, many are excited to see if Kohli can lead the Indian team to victory on home soil.
