Sri Lanka legend wicket-keeper batter Kumar Sangakkara praises Indian future star, Sanju Samson. Sanju is all ready to play Sri Lanka in the upcoming T20I series.
Sanju Samson is back in the lineup for the T20I series against Sri Lanka, which kicks off on January 3. The wicketkeeper-batter participated in the ODI series against New Zealand but was not picked in the subsequent limited-overs series in Bangladesh. Samson will, however, be looking to take advantage of the opportunities in the upcoming three-match home series, where Hardik Pandya will lead the team.
Kumar Sangakkara, coach of the Rajasthan Royals team in IPL 2023 has praised Sanju Samson several times. Samson has not received many chances for Indian Cricket Team. However, in the Indian Premier League with Rajasthan Royals, Samson delivered impressive performances, primarily batting at no.3 for the team while leading them to the tournament’s final in the 2022 edition. However, his head coach at the franchise, Kumar Sangakkara, believes that the wicketkeeper should play at number four.
“He’s ideally suited at no.4 in T20 cricket, coming in after the first seven overs are done,” Sangakkara on Sanju Samson.
“He can bat anywhere; I think in India when he plays, he has to bat out of position. He has power, he has got the touch, he has got a great temperament, good head on his shoulders. He understands how to navigate difficult situations. You can slot him anywhere and he will do well,” the former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara further added.
Samson has played 11 ODIs and T20Is till now. His terrific average of 66 in ODIs has raised several questions about why he was not picked for the Indian squad for ODIs. Sanju Samson can be a perfect replacement for injured wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant.
