Babar Azam has suddenly announced today that he has resigned from the Pakistan’s captaincy in all three formats. His decision came after a PCB session which was held today. Babar revealed that he will continue to play as a batter for Pakistan in all three formats of the game. It seems that Babar Azam has suffered the repercussions of Pakistan’s exit from the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Here we have covered five players who could be the possible replacement of Babar Azam for Pakistan’s captaincy in all three formats of the game.
1. Mohammad Rizwan
Mohammad Rizwan is the front runner for Pakistan captaincy in all three formats of the game. He was the highest scorer for Pakistan in ODI World Cup 2023. He is an all format player who could provide great insights from behind the wickets as he is also the first choice wicketkeeper for Pakistan Cricket Team.
2. Shaheen Shah Afridi
Shaheen Shah Afridi has proved the mettle of his captaincy in the PSL. He has led his team to the trophy on two occasions. There is already a lot of support for Shaheen Shah Afridi in the Pakistani Cricket realm. He could definitely be looked as one of the best choices for Pakistan’s captaincy in ODIs and T20Is. However, Shaheen Shah Afridi is not expected to be considered for Pakistan’s captaincy in Test cricket due to his fitness issues.
3. Shadab Khan
Shadab Khan recently captained Pakistan Cricket Team in a series against Afghanistan. He is also the vice captain of Pakistan Cricket Team. He is an all-rounder who represents Pakistan in all three formats of the game. Shadab is one of Pakistan’s pillars and could definitely replace Babar Azam as captain in all three formats of the game.

4. Fakhar Zaman
Fakhar Zaman could be an out of the box choice for Pakistan’s captaincy in white ball formats of the game. He recently showcased his ability with the bat by scoring the fastest century for Pakistan in ICC ODI World Cup history. However, Fakhar Zaman is not a regular in the Test side and Pakistan would need to consider someone else for the Test captaincy.
5. Sarfaraz Ahmed
Sarfaraz Ahmed is the only Pakistan captain to win an ICC Trophy in the last twenty five years. He is still playing cricket and recently proved his abilities during the Test series against New Zealand. Sarfaraz Ahmed is one of the best leaders that Pakistan has ever produced and he could definitely be considered for Pakistan’s captaincy in all three formats of the game.
