Many changes will be seen in IPL 2025. Changes will be seen in many teams. Whether it is in the form of players or team staff. Its first trend is seen in Punjab Kings. Where news of a new head coach is coming out. Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer is likely to be appointed as the next head coach of Punjab Kings. The franchise was looking for an Indian coach to replace Trevor Bayliss, who failed to take the team to the playoffs in his two-year reign.
According to reports, Jaffer will return to the Mohali-based franchise. Which is co-owned by Bollywood actress Preity Zinta. Jaffer, the all-time top scorer in Ranji Trophy history, is not new to Punjab Kings management. He has previously served as the team’s batting coach (2019-21) and batting consultant (2023).
The former batsman has undertaken several coaching programmes after retiring from competitive cricket. He served as the batting coach of the Bangladesh youth team, and has also been the head coach of Uttarakhand and Odisha in the Indian domestic circuit.
Former England head coach Bayliss, who has also won two IPL titles as Kolkata Knight Riders head coach in 2012 and 2014, joined Punjab Kings as head coach on a two-year deal ahead of IPL 2023. But during his tenure, he failed to deliver the results the franchise deserved and the team finished 8th (2023) and 9th (2024) in the points table.
The news of a new head coach for Punjab Kings ahead of IPL 2025 has been in the news for quite some time now, as it was earlier reported that Punjab Kings are in no mood to extend Bayliss’ tenure and want to appoint an Indian as the head coach.
