Women’s CWC 2022 Semifinal Preview: Australia VS West Indies

Australia Women will take on West Indies Women in the first semi-final of ICC Women’s CWC 2022 in New Zealand.

The clash will happen at 3:30 AM IST on 30th March 2022 at Basin Reserve Stadium in Wellington.

Australia Women are clear cut favourites to win the match and proceed to the finals. However, West Indies Women are a team that can turn the tables on opponents at any point in time.

Probable XIs:

AUSW: Alyssa Healy (wk), Rachael Haynes, Meg Lanning (c), Beth Mooney, Tahlia McGrath, Ashleigh Gardner, Annabel Sutherland, Jess Jonassen, Alana King, Megan Schutt, Darcie Brown

WIW: Deandra Dottin, Rashada Williams, Hayley Matthews, Stafanie Taylor (c), Shemaine Campbelle (wk), Chedean Nation, Kycia Knight, Afy Fletcher, Chinelle Henry, Karishma Ramharack, Shamilia Connell

Players to Watch Out:

The big players rise on the big occasions; therefore, West Indies need to be wary of Ellyse Perry’s all-rounder abilities that can change the match in a few overs. Perry has not done complete justice to her potential and will be rearing to roar in the semi-finals.

Stefanie Taylor, the West Indian captain, is a dangerous batter when inflow. She will be eager to score a big one to defeat the mighty Aussies and secure her team’s place in the top two.

Clash at the Group Stage:

The kangaroos defeated the Caribbeans in a lop-sided match by chasing down measly 132 runs in just 30.2 overs with 7 wickets to spare.

Journey throughout the Tournament:

Australia Women have remained undefeated with 7 wins out of 7 games at the group stage. They have established utter dominance in the World Cup by comprehensively beating every opponent, including the Caribbeans.

Meanwhile, West Indies has had a tumultuous journey at the World Cup, with luck favouring them to qualify for the semi-finals ultimately. Windies will hope to replicate the astonishing success they had in the three matches that they won in the group stage.
