Scheduled to be held in India during October and November, the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will feature a total of 16 teams competing for the coveted trophy. The host nation, India, is set to welcome cricketing nations from around the globe, with England as the defending champions.

In an interview with Cricket Pakistan, Hasan Ali expressed his reservations regarding his selection for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. With the tournament rapidly approaching, he does not envision himself being part of the squad.

“At this moment, it seems unlikely that I am part of the PCB’s plan, and to be honest, I don’t think that I will be included in the World Cup squad. The tournament is rapidly approaching, and the team for the mega-event may already be finalized. We don’t have many ODI matches left, and the status of the Asia Cup, including its location, remains uncertain. Time is also running short,” shared Hasan Ali.

“While I don’t envision myself in the World Cup squad at this moment, one can never predict when an opportunity might arise. I stay prepared, ready to shoulder any responsibility bestowed upon me. This team is my own, and I’m always available to give my all, aiming to deliver victories for my beloved team,” he added.

Hasan Ali acknowledged the exceptional performances of the current Pakistani bowlers, stating that they deserve their place in the team. Meanwhile, his own future in both the ODI and red-ball formats remains uncertain.

“The current bowlers representing Pakistan are performing exceptionally well, and they deserve to be part of the team. As for myself, I remain uncertain about my inclusion in the national side, and I’m unsure if I’ll be part of the red-ball team as well,” Hasan Ali further commented.

Having last played for Pakistan in a T20I match in September 2022, Hasan Ali’s absence from the ODI and T20I squads since the beginning of this year has raised doubts about his selection. While he participated in a Test match against New Zealand in January 2023, his limited overs appearances for Pakistan date back to June and September 2022 for ODIs and T20Is, respectively. With an impressive track record of 22 Tests, 60 ODIs, and 50 T20Is for Pakistan since 2016, Hasan Ali’s future remains uncertain as the ICC World Cup 2023 draws near.
