Former Indian cricket team captain, Virat Kohli, has singled out David Warner as the primary player from Australia who can pose a significant threat in the World Test Championship final. Kohli’s surprising choice excludes the well-known duo of Steve Smith and Travis Head.
In the upcoming WTC final, Team India is focused on taking 20 wickets, having learned from their defeat against New Zealand in the previous edition. However, facing a strong Australian team led by players like Marnus Labuschagne and Pat Cummins, India’s bowling attack, without Jasprit Bumrah, faces a daunting task.
Kohli emphasized the importance of dismissing David Warner early due to his ability to swiftly alter the course of the game. Warner’s aggressive batting style and penchant for hitting boundaries make him a formidable player. Kohli also acknowledged Warner’s influential contributions across formats, further enhancing his status as a formidable opponent. Restricting Warner’s impact by removing him quickly becomes a priority for India in the final. Interestingly, David Warner was sent back to the pavilion after scoring good 43 runs in the first innings of WTC Final 2023.

Warner, on his final tour of England, plans to retire after the SCG Test against Pakistan in January. While not in top form in Test cricket, Warner will be highly motivated to perform well in the WTC final and the Ashes series, aiming to conclude his overseas Test career on a high note.
