WTC Final 2023: Sanjay Manjrekar Hails Ravindra Jadeja’s Elevated Batting in Tests, Labels Him a Proper No.6 Batter

Jadeja's crucial innings in the WTC Final impresses Manjrekar, highlighting his value to the team

Former cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar showered high praise on Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja for his exceptional batting performance against Australia in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final. Manjrekar emphasized that Jadeja’s batting in Tests has reached a whole new level, resembling that of a proficient No.6 batsman.

Jadeja once again proved to be the shining light for India, displaying remarkable composure under pressure. His innings came at a crucial time when the team was in a precarious position during the all-important Final.

In response to Australia’s 469 runs, India faced a challenging period as they lost four wickets in quick succession, leaving them struggling at 71/4. It was in this testing situation that Ravindra Jadeja walked in to join forces with Ajinkya Rahane, aiming to rescue the innings.

Playing the role of aggressor, Jadeja scored runs at a brisk pace while also showing respect for good deliveries. Together with Rahane, he formed a solid opening partnership, contributing 71 runs and ensuring India made a comeback after a shaky start.

Jadeja exhibited perfect timing and played some breathtaking shots. Although he was set for a big score, his innings was curtailed by Nathan Lyon. Nevertheless, the all-rounder managed to score 48 runs, alleviating the pressure on India.

Manjrekar commended Jadeja for his confidence in leaving deliveries outside the off-stump, expressing his high expectations for the player. Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, he stated, “Jadeja was very upset when he got out, which shows the level of expectations he has for himself. His batting in Tests has reached new heights. He exudes confidence in leaving balls outside the off-stump.”

Highlighting the value Jadeja brings to the team, Manjrekar emphasized his ability to perform consistently in challenging situations. He recalled Jadeja’s vital innings in the one-off Test match in England alongside Rishabh Pant, noting how he once again provided India with crucial runs.

Manjrekar further added, “Yet again, he played a significant innings against the odds in a tough situation, similar to his performance in the previous England Test. While the runs he scored may not have been sufficient, he has once again demonstrated his value. He is now batting at No.6 like a proper batsman.”

In recent times, Ravindra Jadeja has emerged as India’s most reliable batsman in Tests. Since the beginning of 2022, the all-rounder has amassed 511 runs at an average of 51.10, including two centuries.
