India and Australia wore black armbands for the World Test Championship final to honour the victims of the Odisha train crash last week.
Before the national anthems, the players observed a moment of silence in memory of the victims.
“The team mourns the deaths and extends its heartfelt condolences to all those who tragically lost their lives,” the BCCI said in a statement.
Last week, three trains – two passengers and one freight – collided in the Indian state of Odisha, killing 290 people and injuring over 1,000 more.
India has won the toss at The Oval and has decided to field first. Mohammed Siraj has dismissed Usman Khawaja and the Australians are batting at 21/2 in 9 overs.
