During the first innings, the pitch used at the Oval was ideal for batters. Fast bowlers will struggle on the first day, but as the match progresses, cracks in the pitch may aid spinners, making it difficult for batters to score runs. If there is some grass growing on the surface, it will make it easier for pacers to take wickets, but since county matches were held at the Oval before this match, not much grass was seen.
