2027 ICC Cricket World Cup: Host Country, Dates, Teams and Qualification

The top eight teams in the ICC ODI rankings qualify directly, while the remaining four positions are determined through global qualifier tournaments.

The 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup is the 14th edition of the quadrennial One Day International (ODI) cricket tournament. Taking place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia from October to November 2027, the event is organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

2027 ICC Cricket World Qualification

Regarding qualification, South Africa and Zimbabwe, as co-hosts, automatically secure spots. The top eight teams in the ICC ODI rankings qualify directly, while the remaining four positions are determined through global qualifier tournaments. Despite co-hosting, Namibia’s participation is not guaranteed as they are not a full ICC member. Therefore, Namibia must follow the standard qualification pathway to earn a spot in the competition.

ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 Format

The tournament structure includes two groups, each with seven teams. The top three teams from each group will progress to the Super Six stage, followed by semi-finals and a final to determine the overall winner. During the group stage, each team will play against all others in their respective groups once, reminiscent of the 2003 edition. Notably, the 2027 edition will reintroduce a modified version of points carry forward (PCF), a system previously employed in the 1999 edition.
