The game of cricket has seen many low-scoring thrillers, last-over nail-biting matches, and many more, especially in the ODI World Cups. There are many great matches which has taken place in the history of the game, however, their highlights might not be available anywhere on the internet but one can get the information through cricket news articles.

The ODI World is regarded as the biggest major tournament when it comes to cricket and today, we will go down memory lane to take a look at 3 matches where the teams snatched victory from the jaws of defeat in the ODI World Cup.

    1. IRE vs ENG, 2011

The 15th match of the 2011 World Cup witnessed one of the biggest upsets in the history of the ODI World Cup where Ireland defeated England by 3 wickets. England opted to bat first after winning the toss and amassed a total of 327 runs. It looked like the target would be enough but the Irish allrounder Kevin O’Brien had different things in his mind as he smashed one of the quickest centuries in an ODI World Cup and led his team to victory by 3 wickets.

    2. IND vs ZIM, 1983

1983 was the year historical year for the Indian Cricket team as they won an ODI World Cup for the first time under the captaincy of former legendary India captain Kapil Dev. However, the 20th match of the 1983 World Cup was a ‘do or die’ match for the Indian team which was against Zimbabwe as the loss could’ve thrown the Men in Blue out of the tournament. India elected to bat first but the batters failed to provide anything but skipper Kapil himself stood from the front and played a legendary knock of unbeaten 175 runs and helped the team to achieve a total of 266 runs. In the end, India won the match by 31 runs.

    3. IND vs WI, 1983

The final match of the 1983 ODI World Cup was played between India and West Indies at the iconic Lord’s. The match was a low-scoring thriller as batting first the Indian team managed to score only 183 runs in the first innings. But the all-round performance from the legendary allrounder Mohinder Amarnath helped the Indian team to lift the coveted trophy for the first time. Amarnath took 3 wickets and scored 26 runs as well. India restricted the mighty Caribbeans to the score of just 140 runs and won the match by 43 runs.
