However, the 20th match of the 1983 World Cup was a ‘do or die’ match for the Indian team which was against Zimbabwe as the loss could’ve thrown the Men in Blue out of the tournament. India elected to bat first but the batters failed to provide anything but skipper Kapil himself stood from the front and played a legendary knock of unbeaten 175 runs and helped the team to achieve a total of 266 runs. In the end, India won the match by 31 runs.

The final match of the 1983 ODI World Cup was played between India and West Indies at the iconic Lord’s. The match was a low-scoring thriller as batting first the Indian team managed to score only 183 runs in the first innings. But the all-round performance from the legendary allrounder Mohinder Amarnath helped the Indian team to lift the coveted trophy for the first time. Amarnath took 3 wickets and scored 26 runs as well. India restricted the mighty Caribbeans to the score of just 140 runs and won the match by 43 runs.
