Ravichandran Ashwin was included in the World Cup 2023 squad of India on the account of Axar Patel’s injury. The veteran off-spinner has somehow found a way to make the World Cup squad despite not playing ODIs for a very long time. Even though, picking Ashwin is a good decision but it seems that the Indian team management has avoided a few players who deserved to be in the World Cup squad instead of Ashwin.

1- Yuzvendra Chahal
The Indian leg-spinner has suddenly fallen out of the favours and is not even getting picked for ODI series anymore. India gave chances to Ashwin and Sundar in the series against Australia but did not even include Chahal in the squad. Chahal is one of the best white ball bowlers in the world and he definitely deserved a chance ahead of Ashwin.
2- Sanju Samson
Sanju Samson is baffingly not included in the World Cup squad of India. He has an astonishing average and strike rate in ODIs and despite that Suryakumar Yadav has been preferred over him. After Axar Patel’s injury, India could have gone with Sanju Samson as one of the wicketkeeper batters for the World Cup squad.

3- Washington Sundar
Young Indian off-spinner Washington Sundar was called into the Indian ODI set-up before Ravichandran Ashwin but he failed to get any chances before the latter. Sundar got only chance to present himself while Ashwin enjoyed two chances at favourable pitches.
