With the IPL 2023 auction taking place this Friday, all eyes will be on leg-spinner Adam Zampa. Zampa has been one of the most effective spin bowlers in white-ball formats in recent times and is expected to generate a lot of interest at the auction. With a base price of ₹1.50 crore, he is sure to have plenty of suitors.
Zampa has experience with the IPL, having played for the Rising Pune Supergiants in 2016 and the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2020. In 14 IPL matches, he has taken 21 wickets at an economy rate of 7.74. He has been a much-improved leg-spinner in recent times, leading the way in Australia’s triumph at the T20 World Cup 2021.

1. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)
The Hyderabad-based cricket franchise is searching for a leg-spinner to replace Rashid Khan, who was one of their most successful players in IPL history. After Khan’s departure, the team’s bowling has been subpar. They need a leader in their bowling lineup. The last few seasons have been disappointing for the franchise. They will be active in the upcoming auction, looking to add some match-winners to their squad. Zampa could be a suitable candidate for them. The Australian brings quality to their bowling line-up. Their home ground is not considered high-scoring, but due to the big dimensions of the ground, leg spinners have a high chance of success there. Rashid used it to his advantage. The team already has Washington Sundar, and the Zampa-Sundar duo could be dangerous, especially for overseas batters.

2. Mumbai Indians (MI)
IPL fans were disappointed with Mumbai Indians’ performance in the 2022 season. However, MI has a history of making comebacks, so fans are hopeful that the upcoming season will be a Mumbai Indians special. Jofra Archer’s availability for the 2023 season is still up in the air. The Super Giants are coming off a strong maiden season in the IPL, and they’re looking to add even more balance to their team at the auction. They’ve got talented batters, proven fast bowlers, and promising spinners, led by Ravi Bishnoi who was fantastic for them last season. If they can manage to secure the services of Adam Zampa, it would be a real coup for the franchise. Having two-leg spinners of such high quality would be a real blessing for LSG.
4. Punjab Kings (PBKS)
The Punjab Kings have been playing in the IPL since the first season, but are still searching for their first title. They are known for making big buys at auction and will enter the auction with INR 32.2 crore available. The squad usually changes a lot from year to year, with only nine slots available this time around. They are expected to be the most desperate side at the auction, so it will be interesting to see their performance in IPL 2023.

The Kuldeep-Chahal duo has been hugely successful. If they can get Zampa as well, that would make for a very dangerous duo attack.
