SA VS BAN: Proteas Re-established Dominance Against Bangladesh

After suffering defeat for the first time against Bangladesh at home in ODI, South Africa came back hard to register a thumping win in the 2nd ODI at Johannesburg.

Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first to recreate the magic from 1st ODI but failed miserably in their attempt and could only muster 194 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 50 overs.

Here’s how the match panned out:

Bangladesh lost the initiative earlier in the innings, with both Rabada and Ngidi wreaking havoc on the Bangladeshi batters.

Ngidi removed the experienced campaigner Tamim to put Bangladesh on the back foot at the start of their innings.

Rabada complimented his bowling partner and dismissed Shakib and Liton Das in quick successions to mount more pressure on the opposition.

Bangladesh could not recover from 23-3 and kept losing wickets at regular intervals to deny themselves any chance of putting up a fighting total on the board.

Rabada ran through the Bangladeshi batting line-up to grab another fifer in ODIs. He gave away only 39 runs in his 10 overs to pick up five crucial wickets.

A bit of resistance from Afif Hossain and Mehidy Hasan ensured that Bangladesh crossed hundred runs mark. Hossain scored 72 off 107 while Hasan notched up 38 off 49 deliveries.

In reply to Bangladesh’s 194, South Africa cruised through their innings to register a win by 7 wickets.

Quinton de Kock at the top was absolutely destructive; he scored a quick-fire 62 off 41, including 9 fours and 2 sixes. The southpaw snatched away what little hope Bangladesh had.

Kyle Verreynne scored an unbeaten 58* to help his team achieve the target comfortably within 38 overs.

Kagiso Rabada was named player of the match for his incredible bowling performance in the game.
