Jasprit Bumrah to Fly to New Zealand for Back Surgery- Might Not Play the World Cup 2023

BCCI is all set to send Jasprit Bumrah to New Zealand for Back Surgery

India’s premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah is likely to undergo a surgery and as per reports, he will be flown to New Zealand for the surgery.

The BCCI is trying hard to make Bumrah available for Cricket World Cup 2023 which will be played in India in the month of October. However, Bumrah will face a 20-24 week rehabilitation, effectively ruling him out until September.

The report further states that it is Rowan Schouten who will perform the surgery. The Christchurch-based surgeon is famous in sporting circles having assisted Graham Inglis who operated on New Zealand players in the past, particularly Shane Bond. He also assisted in the surgeries of Australian pacers James Pattinson and Ben Dwarshius, both of who struggled with back issues alongside Jofra Archer.

The last match Bumrah played for his country was against Australia in the month of September last year. Bumrah was expected to return from the 3rd Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, later it was found that he needs some more time to get fully recovered, ruling him out not only from the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, but also from the ODI series against Australia.

Now the fresh reports state that he will be missing IPL 2023 and the WTC Final. Bumrah is also likely to be ruled out of Asia Cup 2023, and is doubtful for Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.

In the past, the BCCI has opted to fly players to Europe for specialist treatment. KL Rahul had been to Germany to treat his troublesome groin. Hardik Pandya, who like Bumrah struggled with his back, was operated on in London.
