West Indies keeper Joshua Da Silva sets world record with most catches in a Test innings

Joshua Da Silva joins the ranks of the world's greatest keepers with 7 dismissals in a single Test innings, equaling a world record and becoming the 5th keeper to achieve this feat.

Joshua Da Silva made history during the ongoing first Test match between South Africa and West Indies as he equalled the world record for most dismissals in a men’s Test innings. The Windies keeper took seven catches in the second innings, which is the joint-most dismissals in Test innings by a keeper for West Indies, and tied with Ridley Jacobs’ performance against Australia in 2000.

Furthermore, Da Silva also became the fifth keeper in the world to have seven dismissals in a single Test innings, joining the ranks of Wasim Bari, Bob Taylor, Ian Smith, and Ridley Jacobs. Da Silva’s outstanding performance behind the stumps played a crucial role in helping West Indies restrict South Africa to just 116 runs in the second innings, which set up a target of 247 runs for the visitors to win the first Test match.

The match saw an outstanding performance from Aiden Markram, who scored a century and helped South Africa put 342 runs on the board in the first innings. The Proteas bowlers then tumbled the visitors for 212 runs, before Kemar Roach’s five-wicket haul restricted South Africa to 116 in their second innings.

South Africa clinched a thrilling victory over the West Indies by 87 runs in the first Test match at Centurion, thanks to the fiery display of fast bowling from Kagiso Rabada on a pace-friendly pitch. The match witnessed both teams’ batting line-up collapsing on the third day, with Rabada leading the charge in the final innings, taking 6-50 to restrict the West Indians to a paltry 159 while chasing a victory target of 247.
