Women’s CWC 2022: SAW VS WIW Abandoned, Proteas Enter Semis

South Africa Women vs West Indies Women was abandoned due to an incessant rain that kept persisting throughout the cut-off duration of the play at Basin Reserve Stadium in Wellington.

At one point, the game actually did begin with the umpires deciding that the match would be shortened to 26 overs per side. West Indies Women won the toss and had South Africa kneeling at 61-4 in 10.4 overs before the rain interfered again to probably deny West Indies a win against the Proteas.

Both the teams were awarded one point each as per the ICC policy in case a match is abandoned in the tournament due to unforeseen circumstances.

South Africa has ultimately qualified for the semis and became the second team after Australia Women to secure a place in the top four of the Women’s World Cup 2022.

South Africa still has a match left in the round-robin stage of the tournament against India Women. On the other hand, West Indies will be counting on England Women and India Women to lose their remaining matches so that they can qualify for the semi-finals.

Suddenly the tournament has become much more fascinating with 3 teams in contention for the 3rd and 4th position in the points table.
