IPL 2023: All You Need To Know About The New ‘Impact Player’ Rule

'Impact Player' rule full information.

You will get to see many rule changes in IPL 2023. The new rule that is being discussed the most is the ‘Impact Player’ Rule. This rule is such that in one stroke the dice of the match can be overturned. Now it would be better to say playing 12, not playing 11 in IPL, because now 12 players will be seen playing. By the way, the impact player rule will be optional.

All You Need To Know About The New ‘Impact Player’ Rule In IPL 2023

As per the rule, each franchise can rope in an ‘Impact Player’  into the playing team, be it while batting or bowling. All the skippers will be allowed to appoint four substitute players while submitting the team sheets, from which they can be asked to come on the field later. However, only the Indian player can be the impact player except if the franchise has lesser than four foreign players in the Playing XI.

“With the ever-growing popularity of T20 cricket, it is imperative that we look at introducing new dimensions which will make this format more attractive and interesting not only for our viewers but also the participating teams from a strategic viewpoint,” the BCCI, in its note to state units had said before the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

An impact player can be introduced in the game before the start of the innings, or after the completion of an over. If the team is batting, an impact player can step on the field when a wicket goes down or if a batter wants to retire anytime during the over. It is also to be noted that if the Impact Player is a bowler, he can bowl the full quota of 4 overs and the player from the playing 11 who has been substituted can no longer take part in the game.

The new Impact Player rule will not come into effect if the match is less than 10-overs per side.
