KKR vs DC, the 42nd game of Tata IPL 2022, has pushed the Knight Riders on the brink of exiting from the playoffs race. Kuldeep Yadav’s magnificent bowling effort to register 4 wickets did not let the KKR batters get away with the game and ultimately helped DC win their 4th game in the tournament.
KKR vs DC Highlights:
Rishabh Pant won the toss and chose to bowl first at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Chetan Sakariya debuted for DC in place of an injured Khaleel Ahmed.
KKR Inning:
Kolkata Knight Riders again suffered a tragic start with the bat. Aaron Finch and Venkatesh Iyer failed to leave an impression, and KKR was 22/2 in 4.3 overs. Baba Indrajith and Sunil Narine departed without making much difference to the scorecard in the KKR vs DC clash.
With 35/4 in 7.3 overs, KKR was in deep trouble and needed the captain to step up and help his team post a fighting total. Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana took the responsibility and constructed a hard-fought partnership. However, when it was time to put the foot on the pedestal, Kuldeep Yadav dismissed the well-set KKR captain for bringing DC again back in the game.
Yadav accounted for Andre Russell three balls later on, and KKR was put in all sorts of trouble. Nevertheless, a good stand between Rana and Rinku Singh ensured that KKR posted a competitive total. Rana scored 57 off 34, while Rinku Singh contributed 23 off 16. Earlier in the inning, Shreyas departed after scoring 42 off 37. KKR posted 146/9 in 20 overs.
DC Inning:
Delhi Capitals had a forgettable start, with Prithvi Shaw dismissed on the first ball of the inning by Umesh Yadav. Nevertheless, David Warner kept striking nicely from the other end to keep DC ahead of the required run rate.
Mitchell Marsh making his return to the playing XI after surviving COVID played a short inning of 13 off 7. Warner and Lalit Yadav formed a 65 run stand for the 3rd wicket in the middle. However, three quick dismissals, including Warner, Lalit and Rishabh Pant, brought KKR back into the game.
But the shortage of an established bowler as the 5th option cost heavily for the Knight Riders. Rovman Powell and Axar Patel smashed Venkatesh Iyer to ensure DC reached the target comfortably. Delhi won with one over to spare. Powell scored blitzing 33* off 16, while Patel contributed 24 off 17. David Warner had notched up 42 off 16 earlier in the inning.
