Chennai Super Kings (CSK) scored 226/6 in a whirlwind innings batting first, and while Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) appeared like they could struggle to contend in the chase at first, they gave the four-time champions a fright and got within eight runs of the mark.
The hosts’ target was comfortably within reach thanks to a spectacular third wicket partnership between captain Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell. Maxwell eventually departed on 76 from 36 balls after smashing the ball all over the ground. His and Du Plessis’ combination delivered a stunning 126 runs in just 61 balls.
Du Plessis ultimately fell for 62 off 33 balls, but RCB persisted. Dinesh Karthik entered the fray and blasted 28 off 14 balls. After his dismissal, CSK began to see a clear path to success. They needed to defend 19 runs in the last over to win and they won by eight runs, with RCB hitting 218/8 and still losing the T20 match.
