IPL 2023: “I am getting used to bat under pressure”, says Rinku Singh afer leading KKR to victory over PBKS

KKR middle-order batter Rinku Singh talks about his composure under pressure after scoring the winning runs in KKR's recent IPL match against Punjab Kings.

Rinku Singh’s quick-fire 21 off 10 balls in a nail-biting chase against Punjab Kings saw Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) emerge victorious in their recent Indian Premier League (IPL) match. The KKR batsman, who usually bats in the middle order, stated that he is becoming used to batting under pressure since he typically comes in at numbers 5-7. Singh remained unbeaten on 21 runs, smashing two fours and one six, as KKR clinched a five-wicket victory over PBKS at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on May 8.

PBKS had posted a respectable total of 179 runs in 20 overs for the loss of seven wickets, thanks to a stunning half-century by captain Shikhar Dhawan, who scored 57 runs off 47 balls. However, KKR’s Jason Roy, Nitish Rana, and Andre Russell made significant contributions to the chase, with Russell hitting 42 off 23 balls. Singh held his nerve to hit a four when two runs were required off the penultimate ball to seal the game.

Singh’s match-winning performance showcased his ability to handle pressure situations, something he has been working on despite usually batting in the lower middle order. He claimed that he maintained a cool head, similar to when he smashed five consecutive sixes against the Gujarat Titans. The victory took KKR to fifth in the rankings, with 10 points and a net run rate of -0.079 after winning five of ten games.
