IPL 2023: Shardul Thakur Squashes Injury Rumours Ahead of WTC Final

Shardul Thakur says he is completely fit for the WTC Final

Shardul Thakur of the Kolkata Knight Riders has denied any injury speculation ahead of the World Test Championship Final, which will take place immediately after the Indian Premier League. Concerns about Shardul Thakur’s injuries stemmed from the all-rounder’sinfrequentbowling in the KKR setup. In fact, Shardul Thakur has bowled 14.5 overs in 8 matches in the 2023 edition of the tournament, a significant decrease from his workload in previous seasons. Shardul bowled 48.3 overs in 2022 and more than 60 overs in the 2021 edition of the tournament.

Shardul explained his reduced bowling workload by saying that KKR was a team full of all-rounders, so he was only called up when absolutely necessary.

“With (Andre) Russell, Sunil (Nairne),… we have a side full of all-rounders.” “We have a maximum of eight bowling options, including Nitish (Rana), who bowls an over or two these days,” Thakur told PTI.

“It also depends on the situation of the game, if the captain feels the need to bowl me or not bowl me completely depends on him. As far as teams’ strategy decision-making is concerned, I would not pay attention to it a lot,” Shardul Thakur spoke about KKR’s strategy.

“I had a small niggle, so I didn’t play a few games, when I came back, I didn’t bowl as I was not bowling-fit. But yes, now I’m back to bowling and hopefully, whenever I get the ball, I will get the job done,” he further added.

Due to injuries to several Indian pacers, Thakur is likely to be called up for the World Test Championship Final against Australia. While Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out, Umesh Yadav and Jaydev Unadkat are both concerned about their fitness.
