Key Battles to Look Forward During the Clash between Gujarat and Hyderabad in IPL 2023

The match 62 of IPL 2023 between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on Monday, 15th May promises to be an exciting contest. Gujarat is on the first position in the points table, while Hyderabad is on the ninth position.

GT, led by Hardik Pandya, have won eight and lost four matches so far, while SRH, captained by Aiden Markram, have won four and seven matches in their campaign. In their last match, GT suffered a huge loss against the Mumbai Indians (MI).  Meanwhile, SRH also suffered a huge loss against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their last match.

Two highly skilled teams are set to collide in what promises to be an exciting match. With both the teams eager to secure their ninth and fifth win in the IPL 2023. Both teams have played twelve and eleven matches in this season. Gujarat has won 1 game, while Hyderabad has won 1 game so far in the head to head encounters.

Here are three player battles to watch out for during GT vs SRH match:

1) Rahul Tripathi vs Mohammed Shami

Rahul Tripathi hasn’t had the best season so far, having scored only 257 runs in 12 matches. He will be facing a tough challenge against the experienced Mohammed Shami, who has dismissed Tripathi thrice in eight IPL meetings. In their past encounters, Tripathi has struggled to score runs, having managed only 34 runs off 29 deliveries. Shami has been in excellent form this season, having taken 19 wickets, out of which 12 have come in the powerplay.

2) Aiden Markram vs Rashid Khan

Aiden Markram has had a disappointing season, having scored only 207 runs in 10 matches. However, he has a good strike rate of 150.34 against leg-spinners, although he has been dismissed by them five times in 18 IPL innings. Rashid Khan, who has taken 23 wickets this season, will look to take advantage of Markram’s weakness against leg-spinners. In their previous encounters, Rashid has dismissed Markram once in four T20 meetings, with a strike rate of 93.33.

3) Shubman Gill vs Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Shubman Gill has been in great form this season, but he will face a stiff challenge against Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the powerplay. Bhuvneshwar has been exceptional in the powerplay, having taken 59 wickets, which is the highest by any bowler in IPL. He has dismissed Gill twice in eight IPL innings, with the latter scoring only 35 runs off 42 deliveries. Despite this, Gill has a powerplay strike rate of 124.09 and will be looking to counter Bhuvneshwar’s threat.
