WTC Final 2023: Indian Cricket Stars Including Virat Kohli and Ravi Ashwin Set to Depart for England

Indian Players Prepare for the Crucial ICC World Test Championship Final at The Oval, England

As the excitement of the Indian Premier League (IPL) winds down, it’s time for Indian cricket fans to rally together and throw their support behind the Indian National Cricket Team in the highly anticipated ICC World Test Championship Final against Australia. The monumental clash is scheduled from 7th to 11th June at The Oval in England.

With the IPL reaching its conclusion and eight out of the twelve teams being eliminated, the Indian players who represented those teams will now head to England in advance to prepare for the prestigious ICC tournament. The Indian team has been striving to capture the World Test Championship title, a feat they haven’t achieved since winning the Champions Trophy in 2013.

According to reports from Sportstar, seven key members of the Indian squad, including Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav, and Jaydev Unadkat, will depart for England on Tuesday, 23rd May. They will be accompanied by Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara, who has been in outstanding form while playing county cricket for Sussex in the UK since last month.

Despite injury concerns in the IPL, both Jaydev Unadkat and Umesh Yadav have reportedly passed their fitness tests at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and are fit to participate in the championship. Reserve player Mukesh Kumar from the Delhi Capitals, along with net bowlers Aniket Choudhary, Akash Deep, and Yarra Prithviraj, will also join the first batch on Tuesday as they travel with the team.

The remaining members of the squad, whose IPL teams have qualified for the playoffs, including skipper Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Ravindra Jadeja, Ajinkya Rahane, Mohammed Shami, KS Bharat, and Shubman Gill, along with reserves Suryakumar Yadav and Ruturaj Gaikwad, will board the flight to London on May 29, the night after the IPL final.

India’s squad for the ICC World Test Championship Final consists of a formidable lineup led by Rohit Sharma, including Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, KS Bharat as the wicketkeeper, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat, Ishan Kishan as a wicketkeeper. The standby players are Ruturaj Gaikwad, Mukesh Kumar, and Suryakumar Yadav.
