IPL 2023: Virender Sehwag Slams Lucknow Super Giants Management for Costly Decision

Former Indian Opener Virender Sehwag Criticizes LSG Mentor Gautam Gambhir for Quinton De Kock's Omission from the Playing XI

Lucknow Super Giants’ journey in the tournament came to an end after a crushing defeat against the Mumbai Indians in the eliminator round. Following the loss, fans and experts voiced their disappointment with skipper Krunal Pandya and the LSG management, and now former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has joined the chorus.

Quinton

Sehwag expressed his frustration with the LSG management’s decision to leave out Quinton de Kock, a move that proved costly for the team. Instead, they opted for Kyle Mayers, who had scored a fifty in an earlier match against CSK in Chennai.

Drawing upon his own experience, the 42-year-old emphasized the importance of current form in player selection. He pointed out that past achievements, such as a triple hundred in a particular venue, do not guarantee success in the present.

“Even though I have scored a triple hundred in Chennai that does not mean today I will go out and score again. Current form matters, and I feel Lucknow made a massive mistake dropping De Kock,” Sehwag remarked, providing a strong example to support his argument.

It is worth noting that Mayers had earned his place in the playing XI early in the tournament due to consistently impressive performances, while De Kock was given a limited opportunity to showcase his skills.

Kyle

Sehwag’s criticism highlights the importance of making informed decisions based on the current form and abilities of players. The omission of a talented player like De Kock, who possesses the potential to turn the tide in crucial matches, proved to be a regrettable move for the Lucknow Super Giants, as they lost the eliminator match against Mumbai Indians.
