Amidst the thrilling spectacle of the IPL 2023 final, Axar Patel, who was part of the training group, affirms that the team’s preparation for the WTC Final is in full swing. Despite the compact timeframe for format switch, Axar reveals that their preparations had already begun during the IPL itself. The team intelligently incorporated red ball practice sessions during the IPL season, recognizing the significance of acclimatizing to the nuances of Test cricket.

“We were well aware of this transition before the IPL even began,” shared Axar in an exclusive conversation with the ICC during a practice session.

“Throughout the IPL, we made it a point to practice with the red ball. We had dedicated red balls for those sessions. We had a clear idea of the time available and how to approach the switch. While the mental shift from white ball to red ball can be challenging, we have ample time to adapt and prepare,” added Axar confidently.

Moreover, Axar highlights the advantage gained by those players who did not qualify for the IPL playoffs. The extended period allowed them additional time to fine-tune their skills and mentally prepare for the grueling Test format. With meticulous planning and ample preparation, Axar believes that the team will encounter minimal obstacles as they step into the monumental WTC Final.
