Steve Smith has announced his plans to retire ahead of the World Test Championship final against India. He expressed concern about Test cricket’s future. Since another Australian batter, David Warner, announced his retirement from Test cricket, speculation about Smith’s retirement has grown. Warner announced his retirement after the home series against Pakistan following the WTC final and the Ashes.

Despite this, Steve Smith is not ready to talk about his retirement. When questioned about his plans, he simply stated, “No.” When pressed for more information, Smith politely declined.

Smith stated that while having a set retirement date can be beneficial, the primary responsibility of all players, particularly batters, is to do their job by scoring runs.

While Warner stated his preference for a specific retirement date, the most important aspect is that everyone must contribute with their performances. The outcome will be revealed as events unfold.

Steve Smith expressed concerns about the future of Test cricket, as well as his retirement plans, in light of the growing popularity of franchise T20 competitions.

“I’m a little worried,” he admitted. “I hope Test cricket thrives in the future.” In terms of recent games, which have been quite good, I believe it is in a fantastic position right now. As a traditionalist and a fan of Test cricket, I sincerely hope it remains on all boards’ minds and endures for some time.”
