Following Sourav Ganguly’s criticism, Aakash Chopra joins in and expresses his disagreement with Rohit Sharma’s decision to bowl first against Australia in the WTC final. Chopra believes that India should have opted to bat first, considering the challenges of batting in the last innings.
In a similar vein, former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly also shares his skepticism about the decision to bowl first after winning the toss. However, Ganguly also supports Rohit Sharma, stating that in a one-off Test like the WTC final, the circumstances may be different. Ganguly points out that if it were a series, Rohit would have chosen to bat first, recalling India’s previous victory over England at the same venue when they batted first and won the Test on the last day despite being bowled out for 190.

Aakash Chopra takes to social media to express his opinion, stating, “No OTT happiness on winning the toss and bowling… chasing in the 4th innings is always tricky. Important to not just restrict Australia in the first innings… but also, score big in the first innings with the bat too.”

Sourav Ganguly echoes similar sentiments, mentioning that while he is not a fan of bowling first after winning the toss, he understands Rohit Sharma’s decision in the context of a one-off Test. Ganguly highlights India’s previous success at the same ground, emphasizing that they won the Test despite a low first-innings total.
In short, Aakash Chopra and Sourav Ganguly both express their reservations about Rohit Sharma’s choice to bowl first in the WTC final against Australia. They believe that batting first and posting a substantial total would have been a more favorable approach, particularly considering the challenges of chasing in the fourth innings.
