ICC ODI World Cup 2023: 15 Venues Shortlisted by BCCI

BCCI Picks 15 Venues for ICC ODI World Cup 2023

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has proposed 15 venues for the upcoming ICC World Cup, which will be held in India. After a gap of 12 years, the prestigious tournament returns to India, where the Indian cricket team clinched the title on home soil, ending a 28-year wait.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah recently stated that the schedule for the 2023 World Cup would be revealed during the World Test Championship final between India and Australia at the Oval, starting on June 7, 2023. The board has compiled a list of potential venues for the tournament across India, but the final selection will be shared with the ICC in due course.

During a media briefing after the BCCI’s special general meeting in Ahmedabad, Shah mentioned that the ten-team World Cup is scheduled to be held from October 5 to November 19, 2023. However, with only around four months remaining until the event, the BCCI has yet to finalize the schedule.

The World Cup will consist of 48 matches, including three knockout games, which will be played over a span of 46 days. The original shortlist of venues includes Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Indore, Rajkot, Mumbai, and Trivandrum. Nagpur and Pune are also reportedly under consideration. The league matches of the tournament will be hosted in 10 cities, while two additional venues will be utilized for warm-up fixtures preceding the main tournament.
