The Indian cricket team has been grappling with the issue of key players’ injuries, particularly KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, as of late. Their chances of featuring in India’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup appear slim due to their personal struggles to regain fitness.
During the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL), Rahul missed a significant portion of the tournament, while Iyer was unable to participate at all after undergoing back surgery. Rahul, who had surgery on his right thigh, shared a training video from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) recently.
Considering that the announcement of the Asia Cup squad is imminent, it is highly likely that both players will need to wait for their turn, as the BCCI will prioritize their recovery rather than rushing their return.

However, both players will undoubtedly have their sights set on making a comeback with the ODI World Cup later this year, which will be held in India. The deadline set by the ICC for teams to submit their squads for the prestigious tournament is August 29.
Another notable player, Jasprit Bumrah, is also on the path to recovery. According to reports, Bumrah is approximately 70% fit and could be considered for India’s tour of Ireland in August.
