Harry Brook, who had a disappointing IPL season is facing severe criticism for his reckless shot in England’s first innings of the Lord’s Test against Australia. The former England captain, Michael Atherton, expressed his concerns about the team’s lack of control during the match. England suffered a collapse on Day 3, losing quick wickets and eventually getting bowled out for 325 runs in their first innings.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Atherton pointed out Harry Brook’s dismissal as a prime example of England’s lack of control. Brook attempted to hit a short ball from Mitchell Starc but ended up getting caught by Pat Cummins. Atherton emphasized the importance of sticking to the strategies and tactics that led England to their current position.
“While discussing England’s approach, it’s easy to forget what brought them here,” Atherton remarked. “In this case, it seemed like England, especially Harry Brook, were not in control of their actions.”

In contrast, Eoin Morgan, another former England captain, praised Australia for their exceptional bowling display in the second Test. He highlighted the need for England to adopt a more calculated approach and not rely solely on brute force against the world’s best bowlers. Starting the day at 278 for 4, England lost six quick wickets before being dismissed for 325 runs.
On Day 3, Mitchell Starc and Travis Head both took two wickets for Australia, contributing to England’s downfall. With a lead of over 100 runs, Australia now has the opportunity to extend their advantage further as they take the crease. They are determined to secure a 2-0 lead in the five-match Ashes 2023 series.
