ICC ODI World Cup 2023: 5 Standby Players Predicted for Team India

1- Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal is a young left-handed batter who has impressed with his flamboyant batting style in the recently concluded IPL 2023. He has been selected for the Indian squad for the West Indies Tour and is expected to make his international debut soon. India is in dire need of finding a good backup opener as KL Rahul is dealing with injuries. Jaiswal is the perfect choice to have in standby players as he can step up anytime in the tournament if an injury, unfortunately, occurs to Shubman Gill or Rohit Sharma.

2- Sanju Samson

Even though KL Rahul is injured and Sanju Samson is included in the ODI squad against West Indies, there is a high probability of him not getting any chances as Ishan Kishan would be the first-choice wicketkeeper batter. However, team India should keep Sanju Samson as one of the standby players as he has a phenomenal record in ODIs and is a very good wicketkeeper.

3- Umran Malik

Umran Malik is the express pacer from Jammu. He had a dull IPL this year, but his speed is an X factor which can rattle any opposition in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Malik is expected to be on the list of standby players or maybe even included in the Indian squad as one of the members of the first-choice 16-member squad.

4- Mukesh Kumar

Mukesh Kumar is yet to make his debut for the Indian team, but he has been included in the ODI squad of India for the West Indies Tour. Kumar has been lauded by cricket experts for his performance in domestic and India A matches. He can prove to be an asset if an injury occurs to either Mohammed Shami or Mohammed Siraj during the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.

5- Ravi Bishnoi

Ravi Bishnoi is a leg spinner who can prove to be vital for Team India. He brings variety to India’s squad for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. He should be in the reserve players to step-up if an injury takes away Yuzi Chahal or Kuldeep Yadav in the mid of the tournament.
